What is a mastermind group for parents?

The Student Futures Parent Mastermind Group provides help for parents of teenagers. It’s a small group of 5-8 parents who are bringing up teenagers. They meet consistently to listen and support each other.

At these meetings parents:

  • Experience the effective support of an intimate & vetted group of parents
  • Strategize and Problem Solve the challenges that come with parenting  teens
  • Grow & learn with the support and expertise of your peers
  • Your group mates will be your sounding board & keep you accountable to your parenting goals
  • Make connections & build relationships

Impact

Incorporate coaching skills in your parenting style and experience the differences.

What do parents get?

  • Transform your thinking about parenting: Gain a new identity as a Coaching-Parent and learn to see your teenagers through different eyes
  • Learn how to ask good questions to build strong relationships and help your teenagers think responsibly for themselves
  • Apply a proven parenting-coaching model that will help you create a supportive and loving home environment where your teenagers can thrive.

An African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child” because parents cannot do it alone.

How does it work?

Over the course of 10 weeks, we’ll work together to learn stuffanalyze challengesset goals, and share ideas with each other to be successful. Plus, we’ve got some fun activities and practical resources in mind to help stretch and encourage you along the way. We will meet bi-weekly, or twice a month, via Google Hangout. Each meeting will be 90 minutes.

In this program, parents of teens will build relationships and receive support from like-minded parents while receiving personal mentoring from Academic Life Coach, Melanie Black.

What do we talk about?

We’ve got a long list of potential topics we’d love to discuss together, but we also know that every group will be unique. So instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we’ll create a custom plan for each group by focusing on the five topics that matter most to you, right now. We will discuss parents’ successes and challenges. Every member gets a chance to speak in every session. We’ll talk, ask questions, share ideas, and help each other problem solve around that session’s topic. (We might even ask a few special guests to join us!)

Some popular discussion topics:

  • Step parenting teenage daughters and sons
  • Parenting a strong willed teenager
  • Teenage behavior management
  • Helping my teenager with depression

Our Topics

Parenting your teenager is challenging in many different ways. You’ll help us choose what to discuss! Propose your own topic. Anything we don’t have time to discuss in the group, we can set up an additional time to talk about.

  • Communication: Become a good communicator and build a strong relationship with your teen.
  • Empathy: Understanding your teenager
  • Stress Management: What to do when you’re under pressure.
  • Organization: How to manage all that you and your family have going on.
  • Technology: Leverage technology to better communicate, organize, and destress
  • Future Ready: Get help and advice on how to prepare for, and handle the college years and other future endeavors.

Ongoing Support

On top of our bi-weekly hangouts, Academic Life Coach, Melanie Black will be available through email, phone calls, and texting for one-on-one conversations, brainstorming, and support whenever you need an extra hand or a listening ear.

This mastermind group may only last for 10 weeks, but it’s just the beginning of some brand new friendships, partnerships, and connections. Our private mastermind Facebook group will be one forum where the conversations can continue.

Cost

The cost to participate is $250 per participant for 10 weeks. This consists of approx. 10 meetings. If you need to set up a payment plan, we can accommodate that.
